Michael R. Gatto M.D.

Adult & Pediatric Ear Nose & Throat Specialist

"There was never a question. From the time I was a child, I wanted to go into medicine," states Dr. Gatto. His father, an inventor and machinery builder offered him the opportunity to take over the family business, but Dr. Gatto never wavered from the call to medicine.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, he earned his Medical Degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. Dr. Gatto served both his Surgical and Otolaryngology residencies at the University of California at Irvine where he was Chief Resident in Otolaryngology.

Following residency, he established his ear, nose and throat practice in Palm Springs in 1981. Dr. Gatto specializes in otolaryngology and allergy. He has special expertise in balloon sinuplasty for treatment of chronic sinusitis and somnoplasty - a radiofrequency treatment to gently shrink swollen tissue to remove nasal obstruction and restore clearer breathing as well as reduce snoring.

Dr. Gatto and his wife, Anna, live in the Coachella Valley. They have two grown sons. In his leisure time, Dr. Gatto enjoys painting, watching movies, race cars and spending time with family. He has collected memorabilia from numerous films including signed scripts which are displayed throughout the office. Dr. Gatto is a supporter of the McCallum Theatre, College of the Desert, The Pet Rescue Center, Forever Free Horse Rescue and Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation.

"Having practiced medicine for more than 30 years, there's still nothing better than helping people get better. That's the most gratifying thing."

Katlyn Monday, MSN, AGPCNP-BC

Nurse Practitioner

Katlyn Monday joined the practice in November 2022. She is a board-certified adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioner (AGPCNP-BC) and sees patients to diagnose and treat ear, nose, and throat conditions. Katlyn brings more than six years of experience to her position and came to the Coachella Valley following a year as an ICU travel nurse.

A native of Michigan, Katlyn knew she wanted to be in nursing from a young age. She watched her mother provide care for her grandmother, who had many health problems, and this tender care sparked her interest in health care. Having grown up on a farm, she initially considered veterinary medicine but she said she enjoys the communication and educational aspect of medicine with people, and animals can’t tell you how they are feeling.

Katlyn earned her bachelor’s in nursing from Mercy College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio. She served her nurse externship at Mercy St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio, and after that worked as a pulmonary medicine RN for four years at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She also has experience working as a neurosurgical intensive care nurse at the University of Michigan Hospital, helping stroke and traumatic brain injury patients. Katlyn graduated from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where she earned her master’s in nursing and nurse practitioner degree.

Shortly after receiving her nurse practitioner degree during the pandemic, she decided to serve as a travel nurse to help fill in gaps during this challenging time, and her work involved serving as an ICU nurse in Grants Pass, Oregon, and in the Burlingame, California, near San Francisco. She fell in love with the West Coast and began seeking a full-time position in this region, which led her to Palm Springs. She shadowed Dr. Gatto for a week and decided to join the practice.

Katlyn is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She is not only passionate about providing patient education, but she also is diligent about pursuing continuing education in otolaryngology. Most recently, she attended an ear, nose, and throat conference at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

When she is not working, Katlyn enjoys hiking, being outdoors in nature, shopping, and gardening. “I absolutely love gardening and taking care of house plants. They’re my babies. It brings me joy when they sprout a new leaf.”
